Youth Haven awarded $500,000 grant from the Naples Children Foundation

NAPLES, Fla. (April 20, 2026) – Youth Haven is honored to announce it has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Naples Children Foundation (NCF) during its annual grant ceremony held in March. This generous and vital funding for fiscal year 2027 supports Youth Haven’s mission of providing home, hope and healing for youth who have experienced abuse, neglect or homelessness.

“Through NCF’s investment in Youth Haven, we are not just funding programs; we are restoring stability, dignity and hope for children and teens in our community,” said Maria Jimenez-Lara, chief executive officer of the Naples Children Foundation. “We are proud to support their work, helping ensure every young person who comes through their shelter has a future filled with possibility.”

As Collier County’s only emergency and residential shelter for children and teens ages 6 to 21, Youth Haven serves approximately 150 youth annually, providing more than 24,000 nights of care across its campus. This investment from NCF sustains the highly trained professionals who deliver individualized therapy, case management, academic support and life skills programming through Youth Haven’s Emergency Shelter, Residential Program and Rob’s Cottage Transitional Living Program.

With many youth requiring extended care due to the severity of trauma and lack of stable alternatives, consistent, long-term support is critical to their healing and development. This funding ensures that each child receives the stability, structure and personalized care needed to overcome challenges, build resilience and move toward a brighter future.

“At Youth Haven, we see every day how transformative consistent, trauma-informed care can be for children who have experienced unimaginable hardship,” said Linda Goldfield, chief executive officer of Youth Haven. “We are deeply grateful to the Naples Children Foundation for this generous investment, which allows us to continue providing the critical services, compassionate care and stability our youth need to heal, grow and succeed.”

Naples Children Foundation plays a vital role in strengthening the network of care for vulnerable children in Collier County through strategic investments in high-impact organizations like Youth Haven.

Youth Haven’s comprehensive therapeutic campus offers a safe, nurturing environment where children and teens can begin to rebuild trust, develop coping skills and rediscover a sense of hope. Through a holistic, trauma-informed approach, Youth Haven provides not only shelter, but also the tools and support youth need to achieve long-term stability and independence.

Child Abuse Prevention Month: Recognizing the signs and taking action in Collier County

Child Abuse Prevention Month: Recognizing the signs and taking action in Collier County

By Linda Goldfield, CEO of Youth Haven

April is nationally recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time for our community to come together around a shared responsibility: ensuring every child grows up safe, protected and supported.

This year, we are grateful to Collier County for issuing a proclamation recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. This important acknowledgment helps shine a light on a critical issue that demands not only awareness, but action, from all of us.

Each year, thousands of cases of child abuse and neglect are reported in our community. Behind every report is a child experiencing trauma no young person should endure. While these numbers are difficult to face, they also reflect a powerful truth that child abuse is preventable, and it is everyone’s responsibility to help prevent it.

One of the most important ways we can do that is by learning to recognize the signs of abuse and knowing what to do when we see them.

Abuse is not always obvious. It can present in many forms, whether physical, emotional or neglect, and often the signs are subtle. Some common indicators may include:

  • Unexplained injuries or frequent bruising
  • Sudden changes in behavior, such as withdrawal, anxiety or aggression
  • Fear of going home or fear of certain individuals
  • Poor hygiene or consistently unmet basic needs
  • Delays in development or difficulty concentrating in school
  • A child appearing overly compliant, watchful or anxious to please

No single sign confirms abuse, but patterns or combinations of these behaviors should raise concern.

At Youth Haven, we see firsthand the impact of trauma but also the incredible transformation that can happen when a child is given safety, stability and compassionate care. For more than 50 years, we have provided home, hope and healing to abused, neglected and homeless children and teens in Southwest Florida. But these vulnerable youth can only receive help if someone speaks up.

If you see something, say something. If you suspect abuse or neglect, report it.

In Florida, reports can be made to the Florida Abuse Hotline at 1-800-96-ABUSE (1-800-962-2873) or online at reportabuse.myflfamilies.com. You do not need proof; reasonable suspicion is enough. Your call could be the turning point in a child’s life.

Too often, abuse goes unreported because individuals are unsure, hesitant or assume someone else will step in. But protecting children requires all of us as neighbors, teachers, coaches, friends and community members to become advocates and take responsibility. One call can lead to intervention, support and safety.

Our mission is built on the belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to heal, grow and thrive. This April, I urge our community to do more than recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month. Learn the signs, trust your instincts and most importantly, take action.

Community members can also participate by wearing blue each Friday throughout April. Tag Youth Haven and share your support on social media to further help raise awareness and inspire others to take part. Because when it comes to protecting children, silence is not an option and together, we can create a safer future for every child.

Youth Haven’s Starry Nights Gala raises over $2.6 million to provide hope, home and healing to youth across Southwest Florida

NAPLES, Fla. (March XX, 2026) – Youth Haven’s 2026 Starry Nights Gala brought together community partners, philanthropists and supporters for an unforgettable evening of generosity and impact, raising more than $2.6 million to support children and teens experiencing abuse, neglect and homelessness throughout Southwest Florida.

Led by Honorary Chairs Jacki and Max Guinn and Event Chairs Rufino Hernandez, Dr. Deborah Houk, Christine Lublin and Sheliah Wall, the March 21 event at The Ritz-Carlton Naples, Tiburón, welcomed more than 350 guests for an elegant evening under the stars.

The Starry Nights gala was supported by more than 30 sponsors, including Star Sponsors Pamela and James Curley, Fitzgerald Family Foundation, and Jacki and Max Guinn. The gala’s dedicated event committee included producer Rich Cacace and members Pamela Curley, Jen Harrill, Jane Corwin, Linda Malone, Jennifer Nackley, Monika Stepanovich, Barbara Weiss and Whitney Wilson. WINK News anchors Corey Lazar and Taylor Petras emceed the evening alongside television personality Courtney Hansen.

Throughout the fundraising Gala, the focus remained on transformation and the life-changing progress that happens every day on Youth Haven’s 18.5-acre therapeutic campus. There, children and teens receive trauma-informed care, academic support, life-skills training and enrichment opportunities in a safe, nurturing environment where stability replaces uncertainty, and hope begins to take root for building brighter futures.

A powerful video shared during the program brought these transformations to life through the voices of youth and staff. One current resident described arriving at Youth Haven after struggling in school and running away, and how, with the support of tutors and staff, his grades improved and he found stability for the first time. Another story followed a former resident who has since been adopted and reunited with his siblings, now thriving academically and embracing new opportunities for leadership and growth.

Staff perspectives further highlighted the depth of care provided. From bridging educational gaps for children who may be years behind, to ensuring no child worries about their next meal and creating opportunities for simple joys like going to the movies or bowling, each moment contributes to rebuilding trust and a sense of normalcy. These everyday experiences are foundational to helping children heal and rediscover their potential.

“The Starry Nights gala is a celebration of transformation,” said Linda Goldfield, CEO of Youth Haven. “Children and teens in our care arrive having experienced deep trauma, but with stability, compassion and support, we see fear turn into trust and hopelessness turn into possibility. Hearing directly from a young person whose life has been changed, and seeing others still on that journey, are powerful reminders of why this work matters. Because of our community, Youth Haven continues to be a place where young people can heal, grow and move forward with confidence. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who made this evening possible and who continue to believe in bright futures for the youth we serve.”

A moving highlight of the evening came from a testimonial shared by a former resident of Youth Haven’s Rob’s Cottage, Collier County’s only homeless teen transitional living program. Joseph spoke about his personal journey of growth and resilience. Now continuing his path as an outreach client, he continues to stay connected with Youth Haven through visits during holidays and school breaks, a reflection of the lasting impact of the organization’s care. Several current teens from Rob’s Cottage were also in attendance, offering guests a meaningful reminder of the transformations happening each day at Youth Haven.

The evening culminated in an energetic live ask and live auction, which featured an impressive array of exclusive experiences and luxury packages. Live auction lots included a luxury voyage for two aboard The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, VIP access to Elton John’s exclusive Oscar Awards Party in Beverly Hills, a nine-night African safari, and an immersive Tuscan escape featuring a private villa, chef-prepared meals and curated wine experiences.

The live auction was complemented by a silent auction featuring more than 40 curated items, many in-kind donations from numerous local businesses, offering additional opportunities for guests to support Youth Haven through unique items ranging from music memorabilia and designer jewelry to wellness packages and sports experiences. Top selling items included a signed Bruce Springsteen guitar that sold for $12,000.

Proceeds from the gala support Youth Haven’s comprehensive continuum of care, including emergency shelter, residential services, trauma-informed therapy, education programs and life-skills development.

Starry Nights Gala continues to be one of Southwest Florida’s premier philanthropic events, reflecting the community’s deep commitment to ensuring every child that depends on Youth Haven has the opportunity to heal and thrive.

Youth Haven has served as a sanctuary for children and teens in need for more than 53 years. As Collier County’s only emergency and residential shelter for youth ages 6 to 21, the organization remains dedicated to providing home, hope and healing for the region’s most vulnerable young people.

Youth Haven breaks ground on new Therapeutic Enrichment Center, marking major milestone in $20 million capital campaign

NAPLES, Fla. (Mar. 3, 2026) – Youth Haven celebrated a transformational milestone on Feb. 27 with a ceremonial groundbreaking for its new Therapeutic Enrichment Center, officially launching construction on the cornerstone project of its $20 million Building Hope for Tomorrow capital campaign.

Held on Youth Haven’s campus, the ceremony brought together board members, donors, community leaders and project partners to commemorate the beginning of construction on the 22,000-square-foot facility that will replace the organization’s aging 53-year-old building. During the momentous celebration, guests enjoyed remarks from Youth Haven’s leadership, including Board of Directors President Jennifer Porter, Capital Campaign Chair Elizabeth Star and Youth Haven’s Chief Executive Officer Linda Goldfield. In a generous act of support as the building partner for the project, Chris Curran, CEO of Curran Young Construction, presented Youth Haven with a donation of $100,000 toward the campaign.

The new center will serve as the heart of Youth Haven’s therapeutic campus, strengthening and expanding the depth and quality of care provided to youth in need across Southwest Florida. The center will be developed in partnership with Curran Young Construction and several industry leaders who are contributing their expertise to the project, including MHK Architecture, Gordon Pass and Natasha Pereira Interior Design.

Founded in 1972, Youth Haven is Collier County’s only emergency and residential shelter for abused and neglected children and teens ages 6 to 21. While the new building will not increase the organization’s licensed capacity of 74 beds, it will significantly enhance services for the average 150 unduplicated children and teens served annually, totaling approximately 24,000 bed nights each year.

“This groundbreaking represents hope in action,” said Goldfield. “For more than five decades, Youth Haven has provided a safe haven for youth who have experienced unimaginable trauma. This new Therapeutic Enrichment Center allows us to deepen our trauma-informed care, expand educational and enrichment opportunities, and ensure every child who comes through our doors feels supported, seen and empowered to build a brighter future. We are profoundly grateful to our community for making this moment possible.”

The comprehensive Building Hope for Tomorrow campaign will fund construction of the new center and establish an endowment to ensure long-term sustainability. The facility will feature dedicated therapeutic spaces, including individual and group therapy rooms, art and music therapy studios, a fitness and yoga studio, and family reunification rooms. A state-of-the-art Education Hub, expanded library and makerspace will support academic success and hands-on STEAM learning.

To promote nutrition, life skills and togetherness, the center will include a new commercial kitchen with space for residents to cook and dine together, along with enhanced indoor and outdoor gathering areas. In addition, administrative offices will relocate to the second floor, allowing the current administrative building to be reconfigured into a Community Outreach & Prevention Center to expand family support, prevention programming and community partnerships.

Together, these enhancements will strengthen Youth Haven’s ability to address the complex emotional, educational and developmental needs of the children and teens in its care, dramatically increase its impact and offer more home, hope and healing to those who need it most.

With more than $15 million of the $20 million campaign goal already secured, Youth Haven continues to invite individuals, families, businesses and foundations to participate in shaping the future of its campus. Naming opportunities remain available for donors who wish to leave a lasting legacy and invest directly in spaces where healing begins and hope grows, including naming rights to the building.

Thanks to a generous match gift, all contributions made through April 30, 2026, will be matched up to $1 million, doubling donors’ impact. For more information or to inquire about naming opportunities, contact Katie Schweikhardt, director of development, at Katie.Schweikhardt@youthhavenswfl.org or 239-774-2904 ext. 104.

Protecting Childhood: A Community Responsibility During National Human Trafficking Prevention Month

OP ED By Linda Goldfield, CEO of Youth Haven

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, take action and reaffirm our shared responsibility to protect the most vulnerable among us – our children and youth.

Human trafficking is often misunderstood as a distant or hidden crime, but the reality is far more troubling. It happens in communities like ours, and greatly impacts young people who have experienced abuse, neglect, homelessness or family instability. Trafficking thrives where vulnerability exists and youth without stable homes or strong support systems are among those most at risk.

At Youth Haven, we see firsthand how easily trauma can be compounded. For more than 50 years, our mission has been to provide home, hope and healing to abused, neglected and homeless youth ages 6 to 21 in Southwest Florida. As Collier County’s only emergency and residential shelter for children and teens, we serve as a critical safeguard, often when a young person is most vulnerable to exploitation.

When a child enters Youth Haven, they are met not only with shelter, but with stability, compassion and care. Our trauma-informed approach includes 24/7 supervision, therapeutic services, educational support and life-skills development that are all essential components in preventing exploitation and helping young people reclaim their sense of safety and self-worth.

Prevention is not a single action; it is a continuum of care that begins with awareness, education and early intervention. At Youth Haven, prevention means ensuring no child feels invisible or alone. It means providing consistent adult support, addressing mental and emotional health needs, and equipping young people with the confidence and skills they need to recognize unsafe situations and advocate for themselves.

As the needs of vulnerable youth grow more complex, so too must our response. Youth Haven is committed to expanding our capacity to protect and empower young people through enhanced therapeutic services, educational enrichment and community outreach programs that strengthen families and reduce risk before a crisis occurs.

National Human Trafficking Prevention Month reminds us that this issue cannot be addressed by any one organization alone. It requires a united community of neighbors, educators, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, faith leaders and advocates working together to identify risk factors, report concerns and support prevention efforts.

Each of us has a role to play. Learn the signs of trafficking. Support organizations that serve at-risk youth. Advocate for policies and resources that prioritize prevention and child welfare. And most importantly, ensure that every child knows they matter.

At Youth Haven, we believe that when young people are surrounded by care, stability and opportunity, exploitation loses its power. Together, we can build a community where every child is protected, every voice is heard and every future is filled with hope. When we protect our children, we protect the future of our entire community.

Youth Haven launches ‘Building Hope for Tomorrow’ capital campaign to transform services for vulnerable children and teens

NAPLES, Fla. (Nov. 18, 2025) – Youth Haven, Collier County’s only emergency and residential shelter for abused and neglected children and teens ages 6 to 21, announced the public launch of its Building Hope for Tomorrow comprehensive capital campaign. This transformational $20 million initiative will support the construction of a new building as well as expand and elevate the nonprofit’s therapeutic, educational and enrichment services and programs for vulnerable youth across the region.

The incredible milestone was commemorated with a launch party hosted by MHK Architecture, which is generously donating all design services for the project and has been a longtime supporter of Youth Haven. Held at their Naples office on Nov. 13, guests enjoyed catering, refreshments, music and remarks from Matthew Kragh, founder of MHK Architecture, Elizabeth Star, capital campaign chair and Linda Goldfield, chief executive officer of Youth Haven.

“This is one of the worthiest causes I’ve seen in Naples,” shared Kragh. “Seeing these kids, and having a family of my own, it just hits you. The way they’ve lived, what they’ve been through, the challenges they face — compared to what most families in this town experience — it’s night and day. This is such an important cause.”

With more than half of the campaign goal already secured, Youth Haven enters the public phase propelled by strong early support and an active $1 million matching gift opportunity in effect through Jan. 14, 2026. Naming opportunities remain available for donors wishing to make a lasting impact on the future and wellbeing of local youth, including the building naming rights.

Founded in 1972, Youth Haven has provided lifesaving shelter, therapy, safety and support to children and teens experiencing abuse, neglect, family instability and homelessness for more than five decades. As the need in Southwest Florida continues to grow, the organization is taking bold steps to meet rising demand and create a campus equipped for the future.

“This campaign represents one of the most significant milestones in our 53-year history,” said Goldfield. “We would like to give a special thank you to our partners that have graciously donated their time and talents to our efforts. With community support, we will build a facility that uplifts every young person who comes through our doors. Our hope is this will be an enduring safe space that provides healing and renewal.”

The Building Hope for Tomorrow capital campaign will fund the construction of the Therapeutic Enrichment Center, establish an endowment for long-term sustainability and enhance Youth Haven’s capacity to expand programs that address emotional wellness, education, life skills, family reunification and enrichment opportunities.

The new 22,000-square-foot Therapeutic Enrichment Center will replace Youth Haven’s current building and strengthen every aspect of its mission to provide home, hope and healing for youth in need. The project will be completed in partnership with Curran Young Construction, serving as the campaign’s builder. Additional partners donating their expertise to the project include:

· Mark McLean, national director at MHK Architecture – design services

· Karen Larson Murphy, Sean Murphy and Jim Rafferty from Gordon Pass – property management services

· Natasha Pereira Interior Design – interior design services

Purpose-built using trauma-informed design principles, the new center will transform Youth Haven’s ability to provide lifesaving and life-changing services. The facility will serve as a dynamic hub for healing, growth and connection, ensuring that every child who arrives at Youth Haven feels safe, supported and empowered. Key features include:

· A modern dining hall and commercial kitchen for family-style meals and nutrition programs

· Private therapy suites and group counseling spaces

· A dedicated education hub and library to support academic success and literacy

· A STEAM Lab and art studio for creative expression

· A family visit center and welcoming reception area

· A yoga and meditation studio to support mindfulness and trauma recovery

· Administrative offices and an executive board room

· Outdoor gathering areas and a therapeutic lanai

“Every day, Youth Haven rebuilds the lives of children who have yet to know the true meaning of happiness and stability. And Youth Haven — exactly as the name says — becomes their haven,” said Star. “It is not an easy transition. It is not an easy journey. But the skilled people at Youth Haven, through their therapy, mentoring, kindness, love and caring, they truly make it all happen for these kids. We are in the process of doing something life-changing for Youth Haven’s future and life-changing for the children who call it home. This is an organization of excellence and accountability. We are investing in a place these children call home. I am proud to support this.”

Youth Haven invites individuals, families, businesses and foundations to participate in the campaign. All contributions made through Jan. 14, 2026, will be matched up to $1 million, doubling donors’ impact.
