YOUTH HAVEN, INC. AWARDED $4,000 GRANT FROM THE ZONTA CLUB OF NAPLES

Naples, FL (April 13, 2021) Youth Haven, Inc. is pleased to announce they’re a recipient of a $4,000 grant from the Zonta Club of Naples. The funds received will support the programs and services for the children and teens that depend on Youth Haven for Home, Hope & Healing.

Founded in 1972, Youth Haven supports children and teens ages 6 -19 that have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, abandonment or are homeless. Youth Haven is an immediate lifeline of safety, love and compassion for innocent children in crisis and the first step in a long journey back to trust, confidence and joy. Our 25-acre therapeutic campus houses over 70 youth with a waking staff system that allows for around-the-clock specialized care.

The Zonta Club of Naples is part of the Zonta International which seeks to advance the status of women worldwide by improving the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local levels through service and advocacy. Zontians all over the world volunteer their time, talents and support to local and international service projects, as well as scholarship programs aimed at fulfilling Zonta’s mission and objectives.

APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

Naples, FL (April 12, 2021) On March 23, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, proclaimed that April 2021 be designated as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Collier County.

The proclamation, submitted by Youth Haven, Inc. states that children are key to our community’s future success, prosperity and quality of life; and

  • WHEREAS, Children have a right to thrive, learn and grow in a safe and loving environment; and
  • WHEREAS, Child abuse and neglect is a serious problem in Collier County, the State of Florida, and across our nation; and
  • WHEREAS, Child abuse prevention is a community responsibility and finding solutions depends on involvement among all people; and
  • WHEREAS, Communities must make every effort to promote programs and support organizations that benefit children and teens and become more aware of child abuse prevention and the resources available to keep children safe;
  • WHEREAS, Effective programs that are dedicated to keeping children and teens in the community safe and free from abuse succeed because of partnerships among agencies, schools, religious organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the business community; and
  • WHEREAS, Youth Haven is dedicated to raising awareness about and preventing child abuse.

All of the children & teens that come to Youth Haven have been abused, abandoned, neglected or are homeless. Founded in 1972, Youth Haven was established to fulfill an immediate need for emergency shelter for children who had been removed suddenly from a traumatic home situation.  Our 25-acre therapeutic campus houses over 70 youth with a waking staff system that allows for around-the-clock specialized care. Youth Haven views challenges as opportunities in helping each child gain confidence, independence and success as they continue to strengthen the community they serve; laying the foundation for children and teens to have hope for a brighter, better future.

Established in 1983, Child Abuse Prevention Month is an annual observance every April in the United States dedicated to raising awareness and preventing child abuse. Now more than ever, it’s important not only to recognize and prevent child abuse, but to support Youth Haven’s therapeutic and lifesaving programs and services. Multiple sources are stressing concern regarding a possible increase in child abuse cases due to COVID-19. “The pandemic has affected health care-seeking patterns for child abuse and neglect, raising concerns that victims might not have received care and that severity of injuries remained stable or worsened. Implementation of strategies to prevent child abuse and neglect is important, especially during public health emergencies.”1

“It’s crucial that we continue to raise awareness for this important cause and for the safety of our children and teens. If you know of any child or teen has been abused, please report it,” said Linda Goldfield, Youth Haven Executive Director.

Youth Haven, Inc. is pleased to announce they’re a recipient of a $5,000 grant from the Naples Garden Club.

The Naples Garden Club’s mission provides opportunities for sharing and learning about horticulture, floral design and the environment in a congenial, supportive atmosphere.

Aligned with their mission, the funds received will allow Youth Haven to implement indoor plants in all of their cottages. Studies have shown that plants provide numerous therapeutic benefits including improved concentration and increased productivity. They also reduce stress levels, while boosting moods. The funds will also support Youth Haven’s life-skills classes, namely healthy cooking sessions, and provide our youth with opportunities to visit local gardens to learn more about nature.

YOUTH HAVEN, INC. ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTMENT TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Naples, FL (April 8, 2021)

Youth Haven, Inc. is pleased to welcome Andres Paz to their Board of Directors, effective March 2021.

Andres Paz is the Chief Experience Officer of AdVenture, a full-service marketing agency based in Bonita Springs, Florida, where he is responsible for the overall experience of the company to customers, prospective customers, employees, and the market. Andres holds a BS Cum Laude from Kean University in Management Science with a concentration in Marketing. In his 14 years of marketing experience, Andres has served as a Marketing Consultant for Fort Myers Broadcasting, Renda Broadcasting, Glades Media and the Media Vista Group.

Andres is committed to making a difference in the Southwest Florida Community. He is a long-time supporter of Youth Haven and has sponsored many fun and enriching outings for the children and teens. In addition to Youth Haven, Andres has led his support to many other organizations, including: Leadership Collier Foundation, Blue Zones Project, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, City of Bonita Springs Outreach Committee and Junior Achievement.

A proud father to his daughter, Paulina; Andres has been recognized as one of Gulfshore Business’ 40 Under 40 as well as Naples Herald’s 40 Under 40.

Youth Haven, Inc. is pleased to welcome Amy Novakovich, CFP®, CRPC®, to their Board of Directors, effective March 2021.

A native of Wisconsin, Amy began her schooling at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse prior to relocating to Florida in 2004. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in finance and a minor in psychology from Florida Gulf Coast University, Ft. Myers, Florida.

Combining her educational background in finance and psychology, Amy co-founded Nova Wealth Management with her husband, James in 2011, where she is a Wealth Advisor. Prior to establishing their firm, Amy and James began their partnership at Fifth Third Securities servicing clients from Marco Island to Cape Coral. Amy is both a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional (CFP®) and a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor℠ (CRPC®).

Amy is dedicated to giving back to the local community and has served on several boards and committees all throughout Southwest Florida over the last 15 years. She is currently serving on the Advisory Board for Bonita Springs Charter School and as a volunteer with Path to Freedom. A mother of four children, Amy is also active in her church.

UNITED WAY FUNDS YOUTH HAVEN HOMELESS TEEN’S NEW APARTMENT

Naples, FL (March 9, 2021)

Youth Haven, Inc. is excited to share the success story of Merci, an 18-year-old teen from Rob’s Group Home, Youth Haven’s transitional living cottage for homeless unaccompanied teens. Merci has recently been spotlighted by various media outlets as a recipient of GL Homes’ Good Night’s Sleep initiative which donated funds so she could purchase much-needed household items from St. Matthew’s House thrift store.

However, the first step to making a successful transition to adulthood stemmed from support from the United Way of Collier and the Keys.

In May 2020, Youth Haven was a recipient of a $65,000 grant from the United Way of Collier and the Keys. The funds received benefited Youth Haven’s Rapid Re-Housing Program which supports teens ages 16 -19 that reside in Rob’s Group Home, as they leave the program and advance into transitional living or student housing. The Rapid Re-Housing Program is critical in preventing teens transitioning out of Rob’s Group Home and the foster care system from becoming homeless. Financial assistance is provided as needed for application fees, rent payments, move-in costs, deposits, and utility expenses. Not only does the financial assistance help homeless teens move into housing, but for some, it also encourages them to pursue a college education that will further stabilize them when they are able to earn higher wages upon graduation.

Currently a student at Florida SouthWestern State College, Merci didn’t always have the stable environment she now has. Her high school counsellor recognized her struggles and recommended Youth Haven. While Merci was worried about being labeled “homeless”, she decided to take advantage of the opportunity to change her life. Youth Haven’s Homeless Teen Transitional Living Program and Rob’s Group Home helped her achieve her goal of continuing her education and finding her own apartment through its Rapid Re-Housing Program. After a childhood filled with insecurity, she’s thrilled to be making a successful transition into adulthood. Merci shared, “I’m in the process of making my dreams a reality.”

“It’s truly amazing when you see a donation in fruition. The United Way of Collier and the Key’s extremely generous gift is currently in the process of changing lives,” said Linda Goldfield, Youth Haven Executive Director. “Thanks to their support of Youth Haven’s Rapid Re-Housing Program, Merci now has a place to call home, breaking the cycle of homelessness. We’re extremely thankful for this donation and all the community partners that have helped to provide Merci with the future she deserves.”

YOUTH HAVEN, INC. ANNOUNCES ART HAVEN: HEALING THROUGH SELF-EXPRESSION

Youth Haven, Inc. is pleased to announce Art Haven: Healing Through Self-Expression, an inaugural art show featuring work created by the children & teens of Youth Haven. The event will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at The Collective Naples, located at 111 10th Street South, Naples, FL 34102. Youth Haven’s dynamic art program was established in 2010 and offers each child and teen that lives on our 25-acre therapeutic campus opportunities to conceptualize ideas and develop skills through individual and collaborative art enrichment.  Art is therapeutic for children who suffer from trauma and abuse. Art builds confidence, allowing youth to creatively reflect on their past, present and future. Your purchase of an original piece of art supports programs that facilitate transformational change and healing in our youth!

YOUTH HAVEN, INC. AWARDED PPE DONATION FROM BANK OF AMERICA

Youth Haven, Inc. is pleased to announce they’re a recipient of a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) donation from Bank of America.

Bank of America is donating 6,000 masks, 25 cases of hand sanitizer and 8,000 gloves to help keep Youth Haven’s children, teens, staff & visitors safe during this unprecedented time.  Bank of America remains focused on addressing the impact of the health and humanitarian crisis, and continues to enhance their support for partners and organizations who are working tirelessly across their local markets.

YOUTH HAVEN VOTED 2021 NONPROFIT OF THE YEAR

Naples, FL (February 5, 2021)

Youth Haven, Inc. was voted The Scout Guide Naples’ 2021 Nonprofit of the Year. As the recipient of this prestigious award, Youth Haven will receive a full-page spread in their magazine, professional photography and year-round marketing support. ⁠⁠

Voting was conducted by The Scout Guide Naples between January 19, 2021 –  January 28, 2021. During this time, the public had the opportunity to support local nonprofits by voting for their favorite organization in their “Scouting for a Cause” contest. The Scout Guide Naples is part of a national network of 60+ cities.

Youth Haven is Southwest Florida’s only emergency and residential shelter for boys and girls ages 6 to 19 who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. It is an immediate lifeline of safety, love and compassion for innocent children in crisis and the first step in a long journey back to trust, confidence and joy.

YOUTH HAVEN, INC. AWARDED $2,500 DONATION FROM BARRON COLLIER COMPANIES

Naples, FL (February 1, 2021)

Youth Haven, Inc. is pleased to announce they are a recipient of a $2,500 donation grant from the Barron Collier Companies. The funds received will be used to help maintain its 25-acre therapeutic campus.

Youth Haven is Southwest Florida’s only residential shelter for boys and girls ages 6 – 19 who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, abandonment or are homeless. The children that arrive at Youth Haven having been traumatized by their situations. They have intense feelings of fear, isolation, sadness, anger, and loss.

Youth Haven’s therapeutic campus affords the youth not only a newfound sense of comfort and security but also many opportunities to participate in normalizing experiences and heal from the trauma they have experienced. They are encouraged to engage in outdoor activities including a myriad of sports, bicycling, gardening, and nature exploration. Many counseling sessions are held outdoors due to some youth responding positively to the open environment. They also engage in playful activities with our animal-assisted therapy dogs, Houston & Champ.

“We are so grateful for Barron Collier Companies’ generosity,” said Linda Goldfield, Youth Haven’s Executive Director. “Our therapeutic campus is a huge component of our program and is instrumental to our children & teen’s success.”

YOUTH HAVEN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SEVENTH ANNUAL GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE CAMPAIGN

Naples, FL (January 21, 2021)

Youth Haven is one of 40 local nonprofits selected to participate in the Seventh Annual “Give Where You Live” campaign, hosted by the Community Foundation of Collier County. The 24-hour campaign will run from noon on February 10, 2021 until noon on February 11, 2021. Funds will be maximized through a matching fund generously provided by the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation and the Community Foundation of Collier County.

According to their website, “Give Where You Live Collier is a Collier County-wide movement to celebrate and increase philanthropy. This year, with canceled events and lack of donations due to COVID-19, our nonprofits need your help more than ever! Built upon the idea that everyone can be a philanthropist, this project provides an easy way to support the education and basic needs efforts of 40 nonprofits though a 24-hour, online fundraiser and reminds the community of the importance or making a difference where you live.1”

“We’re honored to participate in this important fundraising event,” says Linda Goldfield, Youth Haven’s Executive Director. “We’re grateful for the generosity shown by the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation and the Community Foundation of Collier County. The funding we receive will help make an immediate impact in transforming the lives of our traumatized youth.”
